What
Whales and dolphin watching near the South Coast of Sri Lanka.
NOT!
We do NOT offer snorkelling or diving with the whales or dolphins as we do not want to involve in any activities which could disturb them. Again: We do NOT. And yes … NEVER!
When
From November until end of April/early May if we have a minium of 10 passengers, which is usually daily. From August until October, if weather and sea conditions are sufficient and if we have a minimum of 10 passengers. No trips in May, June and July (worst time of the monsoon).
Departure time
Our boat departs Mirissa harbour at 6:30 am. Check in is at 6:00 am in our office, which is on the road just outside the harbour -> check out the location on Google Maps!
Trip Duration
Trip duration varies daily, depending on where we find the whales and how far we have to go. This means, our whale watching trips can take between 2 and 8 hours. We NEVER can tell how long it will be exactly. In average, the round trip takes 4-5 hours.
Sightings
There is a very high chance to see whales during our tours (probability of 90% for whales and about 50% for blue whales). We will give our very best to find them for you on every single day. However, on some days, even with our best efforts, we cannot find any whales. Thank you for understanding that our trip is a wildlife-experience in the big (open) Indian Ocean, for wich the outcome can never be predicted.
Rates
20.000 LKR per adult (12 years or older)
10.000 LKR per kid (5 to 11.99 years of age)
Kids below 5 years of age are free of charge.
November-Special: For our trips in November you will get a 25% discount on direct bookings!
The 25% will be reduced from the rate when you do the payment in our office.
What is included:
- All governmental fees and taxes.
- Pick up from anywhere in Mirissa and in the surrounding of 6 km.
- A full, fresh breakfast on the boat (with vegan or vegetarian options)
- Water, Fruit Juice and snacks during the trip.
- The best pictures of the day taken by our fotographer (by email).
Payment can be made in cash or by credit card. We take Sri Lankan Rupees, Euro and US-Dollar (calculated with the exchange rate of the day of your trip). For credit card payments we charge an extra 3% to cover the fees which our bank will charge us.
Bookings
Please use our BOOKING-FORM to make a booking. Advanced bookings are highly recommended.
Please Note
The Indian Ocean is not a calm ocean. There is always at least a light swell. If you tend to get sea sick or if it is the first time for you on a boat in the Indian Ocean, we advise you to take seasick pills on the morning of the trip (about 1-2 hours BEFORE you enter the boat). You can find them in every pharmacy in Sri Lanka. The brand we recommend is Avomine.
Other terms & conditions
Please note that we do not return to the harbour on request or because some of our guests are seasick. Our goal is to show you the blue whales of the Indian Ocean and we will try our best to find them for you every single day. We always have passengers on the boat for whom seeing the whales is a once-in-a-lifetime chance. Thank you for understanding that we are not going to cut any of our trips short just because some of our guests are requesting to do so.
